Some of us are anxiously awaiting our opportunity to retire and move on to
other things after a career at WDFW. Here is a starting list of things you want
to do and info sources.
- DRS (Department of Retirement Services) has a web page that you can
connect to via the internet at the Access Washington link. You can create a
log in and password and view/manage your retirement information on-line. Or,
you can call them at (360) 664-7000 or toll-free 1-800-547-6657. They
are very helpful.
If you will be working for a PERS agency after retirement you should check
with DRS early in the planning process to see what impacts the new job might
have with your retirement pay for WDFW.
Processing of retirement paperwork will take 3 weeks, so keep that in mind
for your planning purposes.
The DRS web site is filled with valuable information. These
include:
- Plan Choice
- Recovery of Withdrawn or Optional Service Credit
- Retirement Planning FAQ's
- Thinking About Retiring Early?
- Thinking About Working After Retirement?
- Withdrawal of Retirement Contributions
- Benefit Estimator
- Can A Legal Order Affect My Retirement Account?
- Can I Change My Benefit Option or Beneficiary Designation After I
Retire?
- Contribution Rate Information
- How Can a Property Division Affect My Retirement Account?
- Purchasing Additional Service Credit
- Retirement Outlook Newsletters - information important to all
members
- Retirement Planning Checklist
- Separating From Service but Not Retiring
- What is Dual Membership and How Does It Affect Me?
- What to do when a death occurs . . .
- Pers2 & Pers3 comparison
- Comparison Chart
- and a comprehensive FAQ section
- Health Care Authority. You need
to chat with them about insurance benefits before you leave WDFW. If you are
going to work for another entity you must not have a break in medical
insurance or it will impact your benefits from WDFW in the long run. Call
these folks at 1-800-200-1004 or 360-412-4200 in Olympia or visit on line.
Health care paperwork takes 2-3 weeks, so keep in mind when planning to dump
this ship and move on to better pastures!
